DIY XMAS – The movie gift box
Posted: in Projects
This is an awesome gift to give to those Hollywood addicts. I don’t now about you, but I’ve always felt wrapping a DVD on it’s own is a bit predictable; I’ve always tried to disguise it as something else or added to it! So, this is a neat way to spizz up your DVD gift at Christmas.
Inception looks like it’s going to be the must-have movie this year, so I thought I’d create a bonus edition perfect for a cosy night in with the sleep-themed heist.
I’m using:
A cardboard packing box
Inception on DVD
Packet of Popcorn
A tub of Horlicks
A pair of pajamas
A Diginate Gloss Vinyl Sticker for customising the box
There are loads of cool ways to personalise the contents to the DVD you’ve bought – for example, if you’d have bought The Matrix DVD, you might put in some blue jelly beans and some red jelly beans, or if you have bought the new Karate Kid movie, how about an IOU voucher for a Chinese take away?
Making your gift
Firstly, there are two ways of customising your box, if you’re familiar with Photoshop or other editing software, you could create a movie poster with your recipient as the lead actor/actress, then order a poster or sticker of the correct size to fit your box when wrapped from Diginate. Here is a tutorial for Photoshop.
However, I’m going to create my own box design and print it as a massive box size gloss vinyl sticker. I can then apply the sticker to the flat packed box before assembly.
Here’s the box I’m using:
Here’s what it looks like with the sticker applied:
Make sure you order your stickers or posters in plenty of time and remember you can order just one of each if you like – there’s no minimum order!
Next, get together all the ingredients for your box, you don’t have to include everything we have above, but it always works to add a little humour to it!
Hey Presto! An awesome Chrissy pressie and mostly handmade – extra brownie points! You could do a similar thing with an album, book, or event tickets.
