Here’s the real story:
If you are immune to metaphors, here is what this story actually is about: When you get a quote on our site you can now choose ‘finishing options’, and have your stickers supplied either on sheets or as individuals. If you choose individuals we will cut them out for you so you will get the stickers in neat packs, ready to hand out directly to people.

You’ve been able to follow your Diginate order’s progress via twitter for a while now, and it’s been so popular we’ve rolled it out for SMS.

If you have a phone and a phone number you can follow the highs and lows of your stickers (or posters) on their journey through the Diginate factory and to your door. The great news is that it’s free (unless you’re in the United States – I’m afraid you’ll be charged 1¢ per inbound text) so you can enjoy it with no fiscal damage, and know where your order is at all times.

Here’s 5 reasons why our SMS order updates might be useful for you:

• Look popular on dates. Very few people like unpopular people. Our order updates will make you seem like you’ve got loads of mates, which is bound to help your romantic prospects. Little do they know, you’ve just ordered a sticker of a cat. You can even text back if you like! (Nobody will read it)
• Keep secrets from your loved ones. If you’ve placed a Diginate order with the intention of gifting, our Twitter order updates could be a huge giveaway – Twitter is public you know! Make sure you’re the only person who knows your dirty little secret with text updates direct to your personal cell.

My secret plan (not so secret anymore I suppose) of turning the Diginate HQ into an aquarium is one step closer to completion! Pretending that the mackerel was lonely worked perfectly (idiots! Everyone knows mackerels don’t have feelings, they’re basically swimming psychopaths!) and I managed to get some more sea creatures. Now all I need is to slowly start pumping in water. I’m hoping by the time you read this I’ll be floating on a nice raft drinking cocktails while my colleagues are working hard underwater (relax, I’m planning to get them some snorkels, or at least some straws).

Anyway, the idea was to get some more sea creatures to make our dull walls look nicer. We decided on our favourite sea creatures and the winners were: octopus, manta ray, seahorse and sea snake. Sticking with the dazzle camouflage concept, we gave them all different colour combinations. Naturally we again used Wall Stickers.

Meet the gang: Fisty, Fatty, Flatty and Reginald. That’s Reginald the Seahorse (Reg for short; never call him Reggie though!), Flatty the Manta Ray, Fatty the Sea Snake and Fisty the Octopus.

Here are our printed Wall Stickers. Following are some close up shots and, even better, some facts!

The colours once again came out very nice. Sea snakes are quite cool (because they’re cold blooded), highly venomous and eat fish, fish eggs and their nemesis, the eel.

Vibrant! When not assisting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and (indirectly) assisting James Bond, Manta Rays enjoy jumping, which is especially impressive when you realise that they can grow up to seven metres wide.

Octopuses (no, it’s not ‘octopi’ – look it up!) shouldn’t be confused with squids, which have eight arms and two tentacles. Octopuses have sadly no tentacles, but like a million arms. Literally (figuratively)!

The scientific name Hippocampus comes from Ancient Greek hippos, which means ‘horse’, and kampos, which means ‘super awesome’.

What a friendly looking (and inquisitive) snake. He should watch out for the octopus though; he’s a master of disguise.

Our mackerel is making new friends.

Even though seahorses and rays are natural enemies, these two seem to be getting along fine. Maybe it’s because manta rays only eat plankton and Reg is by far the world’s largest seahorse.

First up, I’d like to print one of my photos on textured art paper. More and more exhibitions featuring Instagram photos are taking place around the globe, so this seems like a nice paper to try. Here’s the photo I’m going to use:

I like the look of art prints with a white border, so I’m going to add a border on Instagram and apply the toaster filter, which gives you a nice wide, light border.

Once you’ve shared the photo on your feed it will also save a copy to the camera album on your phone.

Let’s set it up for print! First up, head over to Diginate.com on your phone’s browser. Isn’t it cute!

Since Instagram always produces square images there’s no scaling issues to deal with. Instagram photos are surprisingly large – I’m going to print mine at 50cm x 50cm. Much larger than that and you’re going to start losing quality. Here’s the quote:

Once you have a quote you can tap ‘Continue’ and move to the next step. Choose ‘Upload file’, ‘Choose Existing’ and select your photo:

Once your photo has uploaded you’ll see it nestled nicely in your cart:

Whilst I was playing with the Instagram photos for my art print I noticed the Nashville filter, which I thought would look great on a satin poster:

Once the image is saved in your camera library you can return to your browser, tap ‘Continue shopping’ and repeat the process for your poster. I’m going for 50cm x 50cm again:

Holy CCTV – Watching you 24hrs. I’m going to print these as 4cm square gloss stickers. Remember, Instagram images are always square so selecting sizes is simples:

As you know, Diginate offer a wide range of materials, but we felt something was lacking: a proper Wall Sticker. This vinyl material is made to be easy to stick on, peel off and stick on again, making it perfect for walls.

After thinking about how to best show off this new material, the choice was obvious; it had to be a mackerel. After all everyone likes to put fish on their walls. Mackerels are quite possibly the best fish out there, except for giraffes, but they’re not technically fish. So say hello to the daddy of all mackerels; Mack Daddy!

Any mackerel would love a bit of camouflage, and what’s better than a bit of razzle dazzle? Nothing, that’s what! Dazzle camouflage is not only for old battleships; it’s a great mix of traditional camouflage and radical art, specifically Vorticism (currently number 2 on the non-existent ‘Diginate Top 100 Greatest Ever Art Movements’), and a must for any mackerel. The colour scheme was inspired by the sea, as well as the official Pantone colour of the year 2013, Emerald.

Augmented Reality (AR) is, according to Wikipedia, “a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are ‘augmented’ by computer generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.”
In other words taking a physical object and bringing it to life on screen.

Aurasma is one of the world’s leading AR companies and, after launching in 2011, currently have over 15,000 partners operating in over 100 countries. Their vision is to “enable an augmented world, where every image, object and place has its own Aura”. They are always looking for people and companies to work with so we decided to register as a partner, which gave us access to Aurasma Studio, their online Augmented Reality software where you can easily create your own Auras (although you can create simpler Auras using the Aurasma app).

After becoming an Aurasma partner, we decided to create an animated poster, which actually turned out to be a lot easier than we imagined. We created this layered design of different coloured triangles in Adobe Illustrator and then animated it in After Effects. After that it was very easy to upload and ‘link’ the image and animation in Aurasma Studio (we won’t bore you with the details, but it’s really very simple).

We printed our design as a Satin Poster, but any of our materials are suitable. You could for example make a tour poster come to life with a music video, or have labels that demonstrate your products. Have a look at the video below to see how the whole thing works and get inspired!

The video should be fairly self-explanatory, but in case you were too lazy to watch it, here’s how it works: First you have to download the free Aurasma app from iTunes or Google Play and follow the Diginate.com channel (open this link on your phone or search for Diginate in the app) Then simply launch the app and hold your phone in front of the picture (it will work if you point it at the picture in this blog post) and it should automatically start the animation. You can double click it to go full screen and single clicking it will take you straight to our website. Clever, eh?

It works!

Here’s a video showing just the animation, in case you can’t use the Aurasma app. Maybe you are a smartphone-less hipster (“I bought this Nokia 5110 on ebay for £30. It’s 15 years old and it still works!”), in which case you’re so “ironic” you’ve lost all track of reality. Get with it!

The geometrically abstracted animation was inspired by London at night; all the lights around the city blinking, bleeding into each other and fading in the dark.

We found a very nice (and free) world map and printed it as a set of 30x30cm Gloss Vinyl stickers. We also bought some self-adhesive cork tiles to put them on and some flag pins to show the places we have shipped to.

We changed the colours to get a nice, warm, and slightly retro feel to the map.

The shortest are two places in Norway and Sweden called ‘Å’.

We used a spirit level on the first tile to get it straight.

Since the cork tiles are self-adhesive you can just stick it straight on the wall.

The world’s easiest puzzle. Fun geography fact: Alaska is the most Northern, Eastern, and Western state in America. It is the only state that is in both the Eastern and Western Hemisphere, which makes it the most eastern lying and western lying state.

Done! All that’s left is putting the flags in.

About halfway through and already Europe is looking pretty crowded with flags.
